Review: Dirty Red by Tarryn Fisher

Leah Smith finally has everything she has ever wanted. Except she doesn’t. Her marriage feels more like a loan than a lifelong commitment, and the image she has worked so hard to build is fraying before her eyes. With a new role and a past full of secrets, Leah must decide how far she is willing to go to keep what she has stolen.

Dirty Red is book #2 of the Love Me With Lies series. It is written from the perspective of Leah Smith.

We have already seen a lot of Leah in The Opportunist. She is screwed up, cold and a total bitch. In this book, we get to know her story.

The book starts with Leah giving me birth to a baby – a girl, which disgusts Leah. Suffice to say that Leah is NOT a good mother. She resents her child and goes to the extent of giving the few months old baby to a daycare. Caleb puts up with her nonsense until this particular incident, which breaks Caleb.

Then, it’s a series of new lies, cheating, manipulation and drama.

I really don’t know why I loved this book, considering how screwed up Leah was and how boring the story-line was. Two Grade A bitches pining after the same guy who tries to be badass and messed up… Ummm, not so appealing.

My answer to that question is:

And even though Leah was a complete nutcase, I felt like I could feel her. I could feel her pain when she finds out she’s adopted, when she struggles to satisfy the image she has created for herself and when she works hard to win her father’s love – all conveyed by the absurdly beautiful words weaved by Tarryn Fisher.

You can feel their hatred blasting out of the book, completely understandable and justified. This is precisely why I just can’t give Fisher’s screwed up books a one star. Screw you Fisher for putting me through that dilemma.

I don’t even know why I practically seem to pipe up at the idea of reading a new novel by her. It’s probably because I love to observe a catastrophe unfold.

This is probably the most messed up review ever, each line contradicting the other. Sorry, guys. That’s just the spell Fisher cast with her Magic Pen.

Leah is a complete smartass and has an amazing sense of humour which comes out here and there when she’s not being a psycho bitch.

*sigh* I loved it.
